How can you help support literacy at home?


Taking part in literacy experiences at home can develop your child’s reading ability, comprehension, and language skills. Simple everyday activities such as the ones listed below can be done daily to help move your child forward in their literacy skills.


*Share your nightly reading, take turns or see whether your child wants to read or be read to today

*Point out patterns in words - /at/ , /it/ , /op/

*Visit the library together and help them choose books to share

*Play card and board games together

*Drawing

*Singing/reciting

*Storytelling

*Game playing, and rhyming

*Play word games, talk about word meanings, and point out interesting or new words when reading together

*Ask questions before, during, and after reading aloud
